How to set up Microsoft Outlook to connect to Exchange

you can setup the Outlook Anywhere setting to use Outlook without VPN off campus, we will use this domain for example, (uic.edu)

Outlook 2013

  1. In Outlook 2013, click File then Account Settings and then Account Settings again.
  2. Under the Email tab, click New.
  3. Select Email Account and fill in your personal information: Your Name: <Name>, Email Address:<netID>@uic.edu Password: <ACCC Common Password> and click Next.
  4. If you get a pop-up asking if you want to proceed, select Yes.
  5. Follow the Outlook Anywhere instruction below if you wish to use Outlook outside of the campus without VPN.
  6. Select Allow when prompted to configure email server settings and click Finish.

Outlook 2010

  1. In Outlook 2010, click File then Account Settings.
  2. Under the Email tab, click New.
  3. Select Email Account and click Next.
  4. Fill out your personal information: Your Name: <Name>, Email Address: <netID>@uic.eduPassword: <ACCC Common Password>.
  5. Follow the Outlook Anywhere instruction below if you wish to use Outlook outside of the campus without VPN.
  6. Click Next and then Finish.

Outlook 2007

NOTE: The use of Outlook 2007 has been depreciated. Please upgrade and use Office 2010 or above to access ACCC Exchange Service.
  1. In Outlook 2007, click the Tools Menu and Select Account Settings.
  2. Under the Email tab click New.
  3. Select Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP and click Next.
  4. Fill out your personal information: Your Name: <Name>, Email Address: <netID>@uic.eduPassword: <ACCC Common Password>.
  5. Follow the Outlook Anywhere instruction below if you wish to use Outlook outside of the campus without VPN.
  6. Click Next and then Finish.

Outlook Anywhere

The Outlook Anywhere feature for Microsoft Exchange lets your Microsoft Office Outlook clients connect to the Exchange servers over the Internet from off campus without the need of a VPN connection.

1.In Outlook, click File.
2. Under Account Settings(1), click Account Settings(2).
3. click the More Settings button.
4.  Click on the Connection tab(1) and check the box for Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP(2) and then click the Exchange Proxy Settings button(3).
5. Under Connection settings, set the following settings:
     a.  Enter exchange.uic.edu in the https:// textbox
          
     b. Make sure the Connect using SSL only and Only connection to proxy… checkbox is checked then enter msstd:exchange.uic.edu in the Only connection to proxy servers… field.
          
     c.  Make sure the checkboxes are selected for On fast networks…, and On slow networks…
          
     d.  Finally verify that the authentication type is set to Basic Authentication under the Proxy Authentication Settings.
          
6.   Click OK to close Proxy Settings options.

Manual configuration

Can’t find the server because your machine is not on UIC AD or want to manually configure it because you have another email client? Use the following steps. 
  1. Exit out of Outlook if it is open
  2. Open up your Control Panel by going to Start -> Control Panel
  3. Under User accounts select Mail (Windows 7) 
  4. Click Email Accounts
  5. Under the Email tab 
  6. Click New
  7. Select Email account 
  8. Click Next
  9. Select Manually configure server settings or additional server types 
  10. Click Next
  11. Select Microsoft Exchange or compatible service
  12. In the server box type in: exchange-mapi.uic.edu
  13. Enter your <netid> as the username
  14. Log into ad when prompt with ad<netid> as the username and your ACCC Common Password.
  15. Follow the Outlook Anywhere instruction above if you wish to use Outlook outside of the campus without VPN.
  16. Click Next
  17. Click Finish
